Amazon has announced that their Kindle for iPhone app is now available in close to 63 of the 77 countries that the App Store caters to. China and Singapore are among those countries where the iPhone app is still not available.
The Kindle for iPhone app lets users do pretty much everything that is possible with the Kindle reader and this includes browsing the library, buying ebooks, reading, adding bookmarks, etc.
Amazon has also provided their Whispersync technology on the iPhone app so that a customer’s bookmarks is synchronized and can be accessed across all the compatible devices like Kindle reader, Kindle for PC, iPod Touch, etc. The company has also indicated that Kindle shall be soon be made available on the Mac and Blackberry as well.
In the US, the iPhone app has been very popular among book lovers, especially those who already own a Kindle themselves.
The Kindle app seems to be smart strategy from Amazon. Firstly, the iPhone is not the most ideal device to read books as the small size of the device makes it slightly difficult for book readers. Having said that, offering Kindle on the iPhone will serve as a convenient add-on for the existing customers to read books especially with the Whispersync technology. As for those users who do not own a Kindle, the iPhone app could well be the gateway drug towards buying a Kindle themselves.
As with the Kindle reader, the iPhone app also lets users read through the beginning of books for free. This makes the iPhone a great place for customers to surf through and purchase books which they can read on the Kindle reader later. If you have not tried the app on your iPhone yet, you can click this direct iTunes link to download it.
As always, please don’t forget to tell us your experiences.
