Just a week after we reported that SlingMedia was working on the SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPad, they have announced that the iPad version of the popular SlingPlayer Mobile application is now available for download from the App Store.
Slingplayer allows users to watch TV on the 9.7 inch display of the iPad, thereby giving users a very “personalized” TV experience.
Touted as a “perfect accessory to an iPad“, the app is compatible with Slingbox SOLO and PRO HD set top boxes. Apart from watching shows over wireless networks, users can also change channels and even control their DVR – all from within the app.
There are a couple of new features on the iPad version of the App that differentiates it from the iPhone version. These include a revamped program guide and a very handy recent channels option that will quickly let you hop on to a recently watched channel.
SlingMedia has released SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPad as a separate application rather than as a universal app. This means that you will have to shell out $29.99 even if you have already purchased the iPhone app. However, if you do not mind the lower video quality that is supported on the iPhone version of the app, you can install the iPhone version on your iPad and run it in compatibility mode – for free.
You can checkout the video walkthrough of the iPad app below:
You can download the iPad app from the App Store using this iTunes link.
If you have purchased the SlingPlayer Mobile iPhone app, would you be spending another $29.99 on the iPad app? Or would you rather live with the lower resolution video and stick with the iPhone app?
Thanks Nicholas for the tip!
