SwiftKey Keyboard for iOS

When iOS 8 became available for the masses, so did support for third-party keyboards. As such, one of the most popular keyboard replacements, SwiftKey, quickly made an appearance on Apple’s mobile OS.

On Thursday, February 5, SwiftKey officially released a brand new update to the iPhone and iPad app, which brings the version up to 1.2. With the newest software, which is now rolling out to devices, SwiftKey users will gain access to over 800 emoji to really spice up their conversations. What’s more, for the people who use a lot of emoji, and frequently use the same ones, SwiftKey will learn them along the way, and predict them just like any other word someone might use.

The update also includes support for 11 new languages, including Greek, Croatian, Icelandic, Indonesian and more. For iPad owners that are using SwiftKey, the newest version of the app includes SwiftKey Flow, which will now let iPad users trace from one letter to the next to form a word, rather than tapping away on the digital keyboard. What’s more, the SwiftKey Keyboard will now offer an audible indicator when you tap on a key, adding to the illusion that you’re typing on a physical keyboard.

There are plenty of bug squashing and general performance enhancements as well. Here’s the full breakdown:

    What’s New in Version 1.2
    – Add more fun to your messages with a choice of over 800 emoji
    – Your favourite emojis are learned and predicted, just like the words you like to use

    11 New Languages
    – Bulgarian, Croatian, Greek, Hinglish, Icelandic, Indonesian, Latvian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Turkish

    SwiftKey Flow on iPad
    – Tired of tapping? Choose a different way to type by swiping from letter to letter with SwiftKey Flow

    Keyboard Click Sounds
    – The option to accompany each tap of a key with a click noise

    Additional Improvements
    – General bug fixes
    – Layout improvements

As aforementioned, the update is rolling out now to devices that have SwiftKey already installed. Do you use SwiftKey, or are you using another third-party keyboard?
